I can't cut this thread.
If you stayed at the Weygoss I am sure you will know what this thread is from.
I'm currently working on a photo book of our trip to Ethiopia. We're almost at our one year anniversary of being a family and I STILL haven't developed the pictures. I know, I'm horrible. I'm doing an ibook and it is taking me forever to choose and sort through all the pictures. And seriously, all it is making me want to do right now is hop on a plane and go back. I miss it like I can't even explain. I think that traveling somewhere during one of the most amazing experiences of your life (becoming parents) somehow heightens everything. I no longer remember the hard stuff, like the sore back from the uncomfortable beds, and the warmish showers, or the horrible altitude sickness I had basically the entire time.
I miss the coffee, I miss the breakfast at Weygoss, I miss the girls at the front desk, I miss the friendliness of the people, I miss Cloud 9, I miss the smells as you walk down the street. I miss packing our bag up for the day and heading out. I miss crashing back in your room at night and ordering in from Blue Sky/Sky Blue (I never could get it straight). I miss Miranda. I miss Solomon and Yehuala.
And it makes me desperately want to be able to adopt from Ethiopia again, but I'm so sad to think that we may never may be able to afford it.
But we will be back. We definitely will be back to Addis one day. I can't wait to show Moses where he was born. He has so much to be proud of.

Great Post!! Reading what you had to say just got me all emotional. I can't wait to go (sooner rather than later I hope). Can you tell me more about the altitude sickness. How did you know that's what it was?

We had staples instead of threads... I like the threads better.
Oh, and it's Ice Blue. Hee.
Thanks June. The whole time I kept calling it Blue Ice instead of Ice Blue and I was driving my husband nuts.
Ahhh...the threads. We haven't cut them from anything. My husband wears shirts to work with the thread still in the collar. He refuses to cut them.
We're going to Addis in March. ANything you want me to pick up and send you? : )

Mama to Xavier 14 mos old today.
Ah, the laundry threads...
We are leaving for Addis in two days, and I am getting the boys all packed. Dexter is now taking many of the clothes that Selamu wore when we met them. Most of those clothes still have a red or white thread in the collar or waistband because, I too, was unable to cut them off.
It is also a good was to judge how old your underwear is getting :)

For us non-adoption folk, what are the threads for? Can't wait to see your final book! I STILL haven't seen all of your pics from your trip and, like you said, it's almost been a year ...
I still have threads on most of our clothes, nope can't cut em.
And ummm, you just made me all sniffly like and sad. Sigh.
Oh and June they must have upgraded, in 07 when we were there with CH-staples, last year-thread, hmmm, what'll it be next!
yeah, what's with the thread??? I don't think you ever mentioned this before. can't wait to see your book!
Emily.
PLEASE pm me with the significance of the red threads. Makes me EVEN more excited (if that's possible) to go! (oh, and complete the many steps before that.)

Wow, it's good to know I'm not the only one sentimental over those tiny little threads!!!
And for those who asked, the threads were to sort the laundry. You would bring your clothes to the front desk and when they were returned to you each and every article (individual socks even) would have a thread through it. Occasionally we would get someone elses baby clothes back that had a green thread and then we'd return it to the front desk.
This is a great post. However, I am confused about the red thread...
Thanks Emily. It's great to hear how much love you still have in your heart for Addis. It reminds me of that extra wonder that I have to look forward to...and the threads.
Sorry, I haven't read your blog for a while. This post got me all sentimental and made me miss Ethiopia all over again. It's good to know I'm not the only person who got sentimental over the threads. (I thought I was nuts!) It's amazing how such small details give us so many memories!
